Signora e Mare is the work of Texas native Katie Decker Hyatt.
Katie’s desire to letter began when she discovered a small wooden chest. Inside the chest were handwritten letters filled to the brim with her grandparents love notes. Writing to one another while her grandfather was in the Navy, their letters of love spanned a timeframe of four years. She couldn’t think of anything more romantic than the handwritten word and since the discovery, her lettering and fascination with the tactile elements has bloomed.
She has had the privilege of working with amazing artists such as Ginny Au, Frou Frou Chic, Erich McVey, Lauren Kinsey and Rylee Hitchner. And, has been featured on blogs such as Once Wed, Snippet and Ink, and Oh So Beautiful Paper.
The name, Signora e Mare, translates as, “Lady and the Sea”and was born from her love of Italy and the organic tendencies of the sea. With pen nib in hand, Katie fashions unstructured lettering for her clients. Her ultimate goal with each piece is to emanate the beauty, delicacy, and originality of the handwritten letter.
When Katie is not inking away in her workshop, she can be found exploring the local antique markets with her husband, cavorting through vineyards, or carting around her 100 pound Labrador who’s favorite place, incidentally, is in her lap. She’s also been known to frequent a gelataria or two...
